Dear Neighbors,

The DeSaix Area Neighborhood Association is hosting it’s Inaugural Blood Drive and BBQ/Family Fun Day , Saturday, June 8, 2019, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.  Please schedule at least one hour out of your busy lives and come out to support our event.  Meet Councilmember District A Joseph Giarrusso, who will be at the Langston Hughes Academy playground, Noon – 1:00 PM.  Stephen Mosgrove, the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Engagement Liaison, will give out City of New Orleans informational pamphlets and materials.  We’ve also invited the N.O. Fire Department and 3rd District NOPD officers.  Bring your families and enjoy old school music, free hamburgers and hot dogs, delicious sides, snowballs, water slide, bounce house, face painting, volleyball and badminton.  The Ochsner Blood Bank will give free t-shirts to all donors.  Please read attached color flyers (3 pages total) with detailed information about our event, and a description of the door prizes we are giving away.

According to Maria Luce, Ochsner Blood Bank Coordinator, “as we approach the summer months, our donations will tend to slow down, but the need for blood is ever present. It seems people don’t think about it, but the need for blood is ever present – so every pint donated is even more important during these difficult times. Every time someone donates blood, lives are saved.  And because of our donors, and those who volunteer to sponsor our blood drives, we are able to create miracles for our patients every day!”  Emergencies can happen to any one of us, and who knows when we will be on the receiving end of a blood donation?

The Summer BBQ flyer lists the website where you can RSVP and let us know you will attend.  Please give and thank you in advance for participating in our event!

Good Afternoon Neighbors!

The DeSaix Area Neighborhood Association service project for April 2019 is trimming crape myrtle trees in our neighborhood.  Targeted trees are located on the DeSaix Blvd.neutral ground (median) from Moss St. to Gentilly Blvd., and also the St. Bernard Ave. neutral ground starting at I-610 and ending at DeSaix Blvd.  We will cut off shoots at the base of trees and trim branches that block traffic visibility.
We will meet Saturday, April 13th at 8AM by the DeSaix sign at the intersection of Gentilly and DeSaix Blvd.
.
Please mark your calendars and bring your work gloves, loppers and pruning shears.  DANA will provide large trash bags, safety vests and a limited number of work gloves.
Water and fruit will be provided.
Please come out and help keep our crape myrtle trees trim and beautiful!  Thank you!
